It sucks which is why I don't count on traditional TV to get my lesbian content. I've been watching Asian girl love series. It works for me because the subtitles don't bother me because although I'm not hearing impaired I always use closed captioning anyway. They aren't all good, but there are some very good ones to watch on Youtube and BiliBili. Although you will need a VPN for BiliBili because it's blocked in the US.

Some are good, some are ok & some are bad, just like anything else. The best Thai series is Gap the series. It stars a loveteam named Freenbecky. They were the 1st Thai GL and they unexpectedly blew up internationally. Their success basically made the Thai GL industry and the serriss is approaching1 billion views on YouTube and it's free to watch. They have a movie coming this summer and another series later this year. The movie is Sci-fi and the series is a period piece.

I'm sooo sad that League of Their Own was cancelled, but also The Wilds!!!! Just when it was getting so good with the queer relationship blooming.

GOD im glad were talking about this because it vexes me so much why the sapphics keep getting this treatment. i mean. socially/culturally/systematically i understand it, but that doesn't mean i like it at all. a part of me struggles to articulate why this bothers me because i think that it's not something solely directed at lesbian shows, even absurdly successful queer shows get shot down quickly- but it does stink of misogyny and a general devaluing of lesbian relationships, which is just a coupling together of a history of fetishizing and undervisibility. it just SUCKS.

you mentioned ALOTO already but that was definitely the kicker for me- i deVOURED that show because teen shows just aren't for me, and i don't necessarily go out of my way to watch something because it has lesbians in it. i want the story first. so the period setting, the sports genre, the BIPOC characters and ACTUAL exploration of what that meant within that period AND THEY'RE GAY??? too good to be true. so i wasn't surprised but still so heartbroken when i heard about it.

this is why i tend towards indie media like fiction podcasts/audio drama (great HEAPS of sapphic horror there so im eating well) and shoddily made, cobbled together video games that warm my silly dyke heart. agh. wish it was different in the mainstream.

i’ve been into lesbian literature (rachel weisz voice) even more so in the last few years in part because of the situation you’re describing

greta & valdin by rebecca k reilly is hilarious. ashley herring blake's bright falls series is probably my favorite lesbian romance series i've read, some good fun there. mistakes were made and cleat cute by meryl wilsner are other good romance options, i also like fly with me by andie burke. i loved in at the deep end by kate davies, and mrs s. by k. patrick is incredible.

I had kind of suspected this...but it's really sad to know the GLAAD numbers and research support it 🥺

So, I just got to the bottom of the article, where you encouraged us to commiserate over other canceled shows in the comments. It’s been said before, but Netflix is especially guilty. Everything Sucks was canceled on a cliffhanger, and so was I Am Not Okay With This. And then there was the cancellation of Teenage Bounty Hunters. These are all Netflix shows… coincidence??

yes, netflix appears to be one of the biggest culprits of this. they tend to produce some of the highest number of shows out of all the streamers but don’t seem particularly interested in follow-through, especially when it comes to queer shows. (they have to pay the cast and crew more after the first season, for one thing)
